All genres welcome!

Thanks to an incredible partnership between local organizations like Recover Alaska, Thrive Matsu, Mountain Sound & Entertainment and many more, we were able to kick off the first night of “The Spot”.

An under 21 substance-free music venue, The Spot lets our youth have a great place to hang out, meet other musicians or perform the music of their choice, on the only stage built for youth in the Valley. On the first Friday of every month, Mountain Sound & Entertainment sets up a stage at the Gathering Grounds Cafe from 6pm-9pm, complete with a drum set, stage monitors, guitar amps, microphones and a sound guy to pull it all together.

“This is gonna be great for the community! I'm excited to see where this goes!” commented Dillon Winn, guitar player and staff for The Spot. “We're here to help the future music scene in whatever way we can.” Dillon is one of many musicians that make up the staff that includes Jerry Wessling, local guitar player in Element 47 and The Jerry Wessling Band; Richard Byers, former music teacher and current guitar player; Rocky Murrill, drummer for Element 47 and owner of Mountain Sound & Entertainment; Bob Kootz, sound man extraordinaire from Mountain Sound & Entertainment; and the director of The Spot and drummer for The Jerry Wessling Band, Michael Consalo.

The Spot welcomes: 1) Those that are 21 and under and substance free, 2) family members of 21 and under youth or 3) those with permission from the staff to attend, for special reasons.

The purpose of having the venue 21 and under is to first, create a preventative program for our youth that encourages them to stay away from drugs by finding a creative outlet, and second, to give the young musicians a place to play that is their own.

If you would like to perform or have questions about The Spot, reach out to us on Facebook! Hope to see you on the next first Friday at the Gathering Grounds Cafe at MY House, from 6pm-9pm!
