How do we harness the power of family and friends to help alcoholics and addicts into treatment, keep them in appropriate care and accompany them into long-term recovery? Jeff and Debra Jays will present a comprehensive way for family to become the centerpiece of recovery, lowering probability of relapse and creating strong family bonds. This new approach if called, “Structured Family Recovery”.

In the past, the concept of family help has been limited to getting the addict into treatment. In this new paradigm, this is just the first step.

Structured Family Recovery is an organized and specific method for bringing the power of family and friends into the treatment and recovery process. Professional services are limited, but family is forever. By teaching families how to create their own recovery teams, they will learn how to come together as a powerful force for lasting sobriety.

Jeff and Debra Jays will be coming to Anchorage and Wasilla to address our opiate crisis. In a series of presentations and teaching sessions, they will show community members and professional stakeholders the most effective ways to take action.

Specifically, they will educate on three strategies:
• Intervention on addicted individuals

• Structured Family Recovery

• Effective community advocacy

“I believe in intervention for a very simple reason,” says Jeff. “Intervention saved my life.”

Debra and Jeff Jay have been guiding families into recovery for decades. Their work has been featured on PBS, CNN, Bloomberg Online and many others. Debra Jay served as Oprah Winfrey’s addiction expert for three years, appearing in more than a dozen shows.

Debra and Jeff’s books are widely used in the addiction treatment field. “LOVE FIRST” has become the classic guide to intervention, and is now in its second edition. “It Takes a Family” is the bible of Structured Family Recovery, a weekly program to bring all family members into the healing process and increase recovery capital.

Debra and Jeff will present detailed teaching sessions that will outline the “LOVE FIRST” intervention process, which can be practiced by any family. They will also present a detailed teaching session on the methods of Structured Family Recovery. Finally, they will present a simple advocacy method for making all community members active resources in the fight against the opiate epidemic.
