Make Your Coil Last!

Despite the many financial benefits of switching from cigarettes to vaping, one of the downfalls can be understanding the technology. Coils, mods, clearomizers, atomizers… What does it all mean? Well, we at Alaskan Sweet Vapes are dedicated to educating our community on our products and making sure you get the right information! This month, we will discuss coils and how to make them last longer.

At a quick glance, the differences in coils are subtle. One versus two coils, this metal versus that one; but really, it’s about function. There are five main types of coils, designated by their material and design. Some are temperature-controlled and other are wattage-controlled. Each have their pros and cons and vary in thickness to manipulate ramp up speed. As always, if you have more questions than what we provide, you are welcome to stop by our “Sweet Lounge” on 224 N. Yenlo St.

The Kanthal or “Clapton Coil” ramps up quickly in wattage, is easy to work with and for that reason, is more common. The NiChrome or “Twisted 22 Guage” is a known allergen and wouldn’t work for everyone, but provides even more ramp-up power for vaping beasts. Nickel is another material that can be known to cause an allergic reaction, so again, information is power! For those that are looking for a cleaner flavor or more “crisp” hit, the stainless steel and titanium deliver, such as the “Framed Stapled Alien”. I know one thing, I wanna be the guys that comes up with these names lol.

So, now that we understand the basic differences in coils, let’s talk about maintenance. When you start to get a burnt taste in your vape, it’s probably time to replace that coil. But, how can we stretch the life of this next coil?

First, try priming your vape. Before using the first time, saturate the wick that runs to the coils by placing juice in the holes on the side of the coil head and inside the head to avoid burning the coil. After that, take a few “dry hits” without activating the coil, maybe 4-5 times. Try taking a couple low wattage hits as you build up to normal hits. Another great tip is to not “over-hit”. Some devices will tell the user when to hold the button and let go, but others do not. Try to leave a few seconds between drags so the coil has time to cool down and absorb more liquid. Also try to not let your tank ever fully reach empty. Finally, you can also clean the coil if all else fails. Simply take the coil from the rest of the device, rinse in warm water, dry completely and replace. Replace the cotton as well when this step is taken.

As always, we are here to help assist you in any building, replacing, or understanding coils. Thanks for reading, and we’ll see you at Alaskan Sweet Vapes.
