Can you believe it? We are quickly approaching another holiday season. I have already started seeing decorations flood the stores. I love this time of year - family, traditions and celebrations.
However, for some, this is not the most wonderful time of the year. For some, it is a reminder of loneliness, poverty and sadness. For these people, there seems nothing to celebrate.
I am excited to share that Palmer, Alaska has a tradition that all can and are encouraged to attend. What is this celebration? The Saturday after Thanksgiving fireworks display.
Yes, you read correctly! Let me explain. Stan Guthrie, owner of Country Cuts Salon, has been blessing the city of Palmer with an extravagant fireworks show for many years. The part we all can truly celebrate is the purpose behind the fireworks. This magnificent display marks the hope we have in Christ and the hope we have as a community to reach out to each other. Even before the fireworks start, we can see groups engaging each other through praying together and candlelight vigils, and there is even a 7.19 Pre-Party with live music at the Borough Gym.
The glow in the dark 7.19 Pre-Party starts at 6pm at the Borough Gym, 350 E Dahlia Avenue, with family-friendly music, refreshments and glowing fun! Come make sure you are toasty warm before going outside to enjoy the fireworks show at 7:19pm!
If you feel hopeless and need to be reminded of the love you are surrounded by, I encourage you to join the community of Palmer on November 25th. It will be life-changing!
