The Mat-Su Sertoma Club Offers Summer Camp Scholarship For The Deaf And Hard Of Hearing Students

Mat-Su Sertoma Club is pleased to announce that they are offering two full scholarships to attend Aspen Camp, a year-round camp in Aspen, Colorado, that provides programs to deaf youth, adults and families.

The Summer Camp Session is for deaf or hard of hearing youth, ages 13-17, and will be held from June 19th to July 2, 2017 (14 days). The camp session and airfare are sponsored by the club.

Eligible deaf or hard of hearing students may become the successful recipient of this opportunity by writing an essay of 500 words or less on the topic: How has technology changed the world for the deaf and hard of hearing?

Essays are due by December 12, 2016 and should be mailed to the Mat Su Sertoma Club, P. O. Box 874202, Wasilla, AK 99687.

The Mat-Su Sertoma Club was founded in 2009.  Many valley residents are familiar with the annual event we coordinate. Mat-Su Polar Plunge which has raised almost $250,000 for local non-profit organizations. The plunge is scheduled for February 25, 2017, and is one of the Valley’s great winter events to attend. 

Sertoma also offers free hearing screening to the public on the first Saturday of each month. Wasilla Physical Therapy will be open on December 3rd from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (next to Geneva Woods in Wasilla) for anyone who would like a base line reading of their current hearing. No appointment is necessary. We now have two testing rooms, so bring your friends.
