Growing up in Big Lake, I was taught personal responsibility and was held accountable for my actions. Excuses were not tolerated and blaming others or my environment was not an option. The narrative I learned as a child was one of self-reliance and personal efficacy. In short, you are responsible for where you are at in life. Your conditions may have an impact, but ultimately your choices determine whether you succeed or fail.
This narrative is one I believe many people share. We have proven to ourselves what we are capable of and will not accept excuses, especially from ourselves, which is why it is so troubling to see a new narrative being scripted.
All across the country we are being told, “It's not your fault,” “You're just a product of your environment,” “There's nothing you can do.” We are told what to want, how to think and what to fear. We are promised that others will take care of us and our communities are suffering because of it. We are sold “easy” and, in its pursuit, we are learning to be helpless.
R3BEL is our way of saying, “No more.” Our community will continue to atrophy if we do not take responsibility for our failures and instigate change. The intention behind R3BEL is to ignite that fire. Fitness does something that few other activities can. It allows you to transform who you are into who you want to be. I've seen that change in myself and in others. It starts in the gym and spreads into all aspects of life. As you build better beliefs about yourself, you are able to more effectively help others. Fears are not as paralyzing, risk is not so intimidating, and action becomes the answer.
Our hope is that R3BEL becomes more than just a 24-hour gym in the Meadow Lakes City Center. We want R3BEL to become a positive influence in the Meadow Lakes and outlying communities. This is our home and what happens here matters. If our community does not act, who else will?
Defy Limits. Resist Easy. Fear Average.
