What is Sustainability Anyway?

Terms & Trends:
It is mind-boggling the number of definitions that there are for culturally-relevant tag words. These include such words as sustainability, natural and even organic! It’s hard to stand by the use of these words, because they can mean so many things to so many different people. Some entities are even using these terms inappropriately.

The fact is, we are bombarded by toxic and negative influences from many directions. Over the last 50+ years, we have been exposed to things that are increasingly more toxic or less beneficial. This trend is evident in our food, in our medicine, in our daily-use products and even in the air we breathe or the water that we drink. It is hard to say that everything we use is 100% sustainable, organic, natural, nutritious, clean or beneficial!

Solutions:
The best I can be is a little bit better every day. Strive to eat a littler cleaner each day, to practice a little more sustainability in my life every day and to incorporate as many organic, whole foods as possible. Use less plastic, recycle more and use more multi-use products.

I can also make more things at home, from scratch. Teaching others to do the same is another approach. Perhaps this is where true sustainability lies. This allows for the freshest ingredients, the freshest production and the least amount of waste!

My solution is to be a little bit better every day. None of us are perfect.
