Mid Valley Recycling’s Young Volunteer Of 2017

Contributed by Patti Fisher

Mid Valley Recycling staffs the Recycling Center and the Borough’s Big Lake Transfer Site every weekend with volunteers. We were delighted when Career Tech High School student, Daniel Bitler, offered to serve as a monitor, beginning in the early spring of 2017. After some training, Daniel is now volunteering one day a month.  One recycler commented that Daniel is very helpful and cheerful.

As a sophomore at Career Tech, Daniel’s favor subjects are Physics, Chemistry and English.  Last August, he was part of UAA’s science program for high school students.  Perhaps his college major will reflect that scientific interest. After completing high school, Daniel plans to enroll at Mat-Su Community College.

When all his work and volunteering is done, Daniel reads books, often sci-fi and fantasy, and loves to talk with friends.

Daniel believes that recycling is vital for the environment, and volunteering as a recycling monitor is certainly a worthwhile activity to add to one’s college resume.

Mid Valley Recycling board members want to thank Daniel for his dedication and consistency. We need more young people like him.

If you want to volunteer as a recycling monitor, please contact Mid Valley Recycling at 907-357-8616. The site is open every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3pm.
