It’s a brand new year, and with it come many plans, hopes and dreams. To help fulfill some of these, the Kiwanis Club of Palmer supports numerous service projects. Some exist to help students with scholarships and others help out homeless families, children at risk and in general, people in need.
Scholarships and awards are offered through the following groups:
• Little League – Youth Baseball
• Key Club – High School Student Service Group
• Eighth Grade Awards – for outstanding 8th grade students
• ABATE (Alaska Bikers Advocating Training & Education) – Motorcycle Safety Classes
More information on the above can be obtained by contacting the clubs listed.
Kiwanis also helps with supporting those in need, including:
• Family Promise – for families without housing
• Salvation Army/Food Bank
• United Way
• The Children’s Place – for children in crisis
To help fund these projects, there are two main fundraisers held during the year:
Moose Poop Palooza, held during Colony Days in June, and the Kiwanis Golf Tournament, held in August. The next issue of Kiwanis Korner will highlight these fundraisers.
About Kiwanis Club of Palmer Alaska:
Meanwhile, feel free to attend any Kiwanis meetings. They are held weekly on Tuesdays at the Turkey Red Restaurant in the Event Room, at 550 S. Alaska Street, Palmer. We have a variety of interesting speakers, representing local volunteer and business groups. Some of our recent presenters have come from Wilderness Medics, Crisis Response Canines and HeartReach Center. The first two Tuesdays of each month are lunch meetings, held from 12:00pm-1:00pm. The last two Tuesdays of each month are evening meetings, held from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Meetings are open to everyone, and you don’t have to be a member to attend.
