Dear Friends and Neighbors:
I am running for re-election to Alaska’s State House, District 7, the Greater Wasilla area.
For my new constituents, a quick introduction about me:
I am a lifelong, fourth-generation Alaskan with a long family history of public service. My husband, Ted, and I have lived in Wasilla for over 20 years, raised our family here. We have marveled at the fast growth of the Mat-Su Borough and the many opportunities for families and businesses.
My first term in the state legislature opened my eyes to the many layers of the state budget and a lack of priorities in how we spend our public dollars. My first priority is public safety, all residents deserve to live in a safe community. Second is infrastructure, we must continue to expand our roads, bridges and connector routes to meet the demand of this fast-growing borough. Third is resource development, we need to responsibly develop our resources, mining, timber, fish, oil and gas to create a robust economy. My plan also includes an audit of each program and each department for efficiency and necessity for state operations as outlined in our Alaska State Constitution.
I believe that less is more. Added regulations, onerous fees or taxes on our industries, businesses or residents do not help in promoting a strong economy or jobs for our residents.
I’ve remained vigilant in fighting for Alaskans PFDs and stood strong against the raiding of the permanent fund for government operations instead of returning it to Alaskans. Not only did I vote against the taking of the PFD, I listened to testimony from hundreds of senior residents last year who stated loud and clear that taking half of their PFD was one of the biggest challenges they faced in the past few years. For many, this money is vital in making monthly purchases on gas, food, utilities or medical needs; it is a need, not a want. I listened and voted to extend senior benefits and will continue to fight to restore and protect the PFD.
I am excited to return to Juneau to represent Wasilla, and will continue my conservative platform of a smaller more efficient government, no income tax and responsible resource development to bring jobs and opportunities to Alaskans.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve you and I would appreciate your support to re-elect me to the state legislature to remain your consistent, conservative voice in Juneau.” Thank you and I look forward to seeing you out in our beautiful community of Wasilla!
Sincerely,
Colleen Sullivan-Leonard
