The Mat-Su Community Chorus Heralds Spring in Willow and the Glenn Massay Theater

Contributed by Nan Potts

With the arrival of Spring comes many changes… for all of us. The Mat-Su Community Chorus is no different. Over the fall, the chorus acquired a new Music Director and over the winter we relocated to a new home. However, with change comes growth and the Chorus is very excited to announce their upcoming Spring Concerts in Willow, at the Willow Community Center, and at the Glenn Massay Theater.

Spring, metaphorically, is the music of Life; the sounds which surround us. Just listen. While you’re at it, you may hear the harmonies of choral voices. Under the direction of Amber Sumner, the Mat-Su Community Chorus has created a concert rich in imagery and tonality, entertaining the intrepid and finicky music lover.

The program, “Songs of Nature”, features Antonín Dvořák's lovely Songs of Nature, depicting the cycle of life through five songs. Included in the program is John Rutter's moving arrangement For the Beauty of The Earth, The Road Not Taken, from Randall Thompson’s, Frostiana, Felix Mendelssohn’s Song of The Lark and other classics and recognizable favorites that celebrate the awakening world around us.

With the melting snow and ice, mud, graduations and their parties, spring cleaning, garden preparations and so forth, it’s a challenge to cram all of our chores and activities into our daily lives. Why not take a break in the haste? Come sit a spell, catch your breath and enjoy the voices who have worked hard to entertain and inspire you.

May 4th provides an opportunity for you to enjoy a free concert with the Chorus in Willow, at the Community Center. Willow may be a bit far for some but remember, the Chorus serves The Valley and it is out and about in the community to serve you. And, on May 19th, you’ll find the Chorus gracing the Glenn Massay stage.

Whether you’re a classical music fan or a flashy Broadway junkie, there will be entertainment for every member of the family and their friends. It’s the Best Show in town for the price! Come join the Mat-Su Community Chorus, they’re ready to preform for you!

Shows and showtimes are: Saturday, May 4th, 4pm at the Willow Community Center (This concert is free to the public; a free will offering is always appreciated) and Sunday, May 19th, 4pm at the Glenn Massay Theater (tickets are $7.00, Seniors and Students are free).
