Boom Town goes big! To the Big Island, that is!

Local roller derby league, Boom Town Derby Dames, is heading to Hawaii! Boom Town is scheduled to play in a double header event hosted by Paradise Roller Girls in Hilo, Hawaii on Saturday, May 5th, taking on the Echo City Knockouts from Kona at 4pm, followed by Paradise Roller Girls at 7:15pm. Both games are WFTDA-sanctioned events, which will assist Boom Town on their quest for international ranking in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. Boom Town officials will also be traveling to gain additional experience both on and off skates: Head Referee Web Stalker and Head NSO Catydid will be honing their skills in both games.

As with all costs associated with roller derby, travel expenses are paid out of members’ pockets. Travel is not funded by the league or sponsored by local businesses.

To help offset the costs of travel, Boom Town Derby Dames are fundraising by raffling two high-end prizes obtained from Image Audio: a 49 inch Sony Ultra HD flat-screen television and an Enso Queen Sleep System mattress. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $20 each from Boom Town members or at the league’s Chili Cook-Off event being held at Denali Harley-Davidson on Saturday, April 28th. Drawing for both prizes will be at 3pm during the chili cook-off. Winners need not be present to win, but must respond and pick up within three (3) days.

To enter the chili cook-off, entrants may pre-pay the $20 entry fee on Brown Paper Tickets or bring their chili and $20 entry fee to Denali Harley Davidson at 12pm on the day of the event. The popular vote winner for best chili will receive 50% of the total entry fees, as well as “Best Chili Bragging Rights”!

Do you just want to sample the best local chilis and help decide the winner? You can do that by purchasing a bowl for $5. You will receive one (1) voting token, be able to sample the chilis entered in the contest, vote for your favorite and enjoy one (1) bowl of chili with toppings and side of corn bread, which will be provided by members of Boom Town Derby Dames.

Are you not one for games of chance? Don’t care for chili? There is a handy donation button on the Boom Town website, www.boomtownrollerdery.org! Your donations are tax deductible as Boom Town is a registered 501(C)(3) non-profit organization.
