Haiku From A Winter Night

Haiku From A Winter Night

By Jeffrey Winke

deep silence --
in post-midnight dark
a neighbor stirs

well into jazz hour
the sleepless night
folds into itself

tomorrow's dark hours
my wife's phone beeps
with incoming SPAM

mottled black
the long night presses against
my patio door

freezing fog alert
I clean my glasses
then go to bed

gray light
the new day emerges
quietly
