Parting Ways

Parting Ways

Contributed by Robert Lyons

Standing on the edge of the valley of perfection and gazing over hills full of serenity
The gift given to me may be displeasing but my own dereliction sadly rests by demand
I will never get to stride the meandering creeksides or flowered trails of paradise
My time here was wrapped in the heat and sweat of desert wander
In faithful ponder I remember the deeds that blessed my journey
The reeds, my own seeds, the waves receding
The arrogant way I took the lead, Took the praise as water fell
As I struck a well, devils yelled, and used me as example
Ample sin we all have, in false self idolatry I would fail
After decades ago I remember the fell of the law from my hands
As golden calves were hailed and cloven hoofs pawed the sands,
Inexplicable how I stumbled in faith, after seeing the fire and hearing the voice
The choice and the plan, I recall the  journey across the baking lands
The hunger the heavens relieved
I can see the whirling clouds and the fiery beam!
And here and now comes the thing I will never see, lying across this immaculate valley
The generations to be
I give up thanks to the wind and wait for the echoe to relieve me of my duties
